It’s early March but when you are in the bourbon business you make it your job to think ahead. Limited Edition season normally starts in September, but here is a potential sneak peak at the 2024 Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch bottle. The sample label was found on the TTB and serves as a place holder for the Four Roses Limited Edition that will be released in the Fall of 2024.

The front label has the classic label design with a 57.1% alc/vol. listed, which can change from the TTB filing to the final product. Interestingly this would be tied for the highest proof Four Roses Limited Edition with the 2021 release. The bourbon enthusiast community normally knocks this limited edition for being a low proof, especially compared to the popular George T Stagg, Thomas H Handy, William LaRue Weller and King of Kentucky. For me, this release hits my favorite proof range and while I do enjoy a high proof, highly aged bourbon, this hits the spot every time.

Again potentially subject to change, but reading the back label I am trying to decipher which recipes Brent Elliott might have included in this year’s blend. The barrel notes of creamy vanilla, honey and brown sugar can be present with any bourbon with some age on it. The note of ripe berries on the palate seem to suggest this blend has some V or O recipes included, both have notes of berry sweetness. Brent has used OESK in every Four Roses Limited Edition he has overseen the blending in, and I would think this year would be no exception. The mellow spice could suggest a K recipe, or really any recipe because both Four Roses mashbills are high in rye (20% or 35%) leading to a spicier bourbon. Let me also point out, no surprise, that this bottle is non-chill filtered.

This is my most anticipated release of the year and it never fails to deliver. There are so many different combinations and approaches Brent has at his disposal, this can have drastically different tasting notes and flavors from year to year. Four Roses Limited Editions can really differ and stand out from year to year making my anticipation sky high!
