Father’s Day is a special for most because they either are a father, close with their father or have had a special man in their lives that has nurtured or mentored them. Four Roses released a special OESV bottle in honor of Father’s Day a few years back that was 15 years and 7 months old from the PS-59 distillation run. That release was distillery only the Friday before Father’s Day if memory serves me correctly.
This year Four Roses had a special event two Friday’s before Father’s Day that they sold tickets to on their website. During the event they released the first few bottles of a new Father’s Day OESV, from a different run, aged 16 years. One of the barrels, RN 63-6F is now the highest proofed single barrel ever released at an astounding 69.1% (138.2 proof)! The next morning, Four Roses released bottles at their Lawrenceburg Distillery and Cox’s Creek Bottling Facility. The bottles at the distillery seemed to last around an hour before they sold out and around two hours at Cox’s Creek. I barely got to Cox’s Creek in time due to fatherly responsibilities. I had swim lessons with my oldest son and after we were finished made the trip to the bottling facility. I honestly figured all of the bottles would be long gone but I made it and I think they ran out just minutes later!
What is so special about the Father’s Day OESV 2024?
Four Roses will normally release a group of barrels to the public once or twice a year that are aged 4-6 years longer than any of their regular barrel proof single barrel offerings. Add on top of that this recipe is OESV, a fan favorite, that compounds the excitement. However, what really makes this Four Roses Father’s Day 2024 release special is the high proof. Four Roses uses single story warehouses that tend to leave barrel proof bourbons aged 8-12 years under 130 proof. Every barrel in this release is over 130 proof. For me and many other Four Roses fanatics, this is the equivalent of a single barrel version of George T Stagg released in a relatively small quantity. In total, I counted 15 barrels in this release and if I had to guess they had extremely small yields. High proof and high age statement bourbons tend to leave a high percentage to the Angel’s Share and yield a low number of bottles per barrel.

Four Roses Father’s Day OESV RN 63-6C 16 Year In-Depth Review

I poured neat in a glencairn and let set for around 15 minutes. If you would like to support the site and buy a pair on glencairns, follow the hyperlink!
- Distillery: Four Roses
- Age: 16 Years
- Proof: 134.2 Proof (67.1%)
- Mashbill: 75% Corn, 20% Rye, 5% Malted Barley
- MSRP: $189 for 750mL bottle and two Father’s Day Glasses

Color – Deep rich red mahogany.
Nose – As I first approach my glen, no alcohol at all which surprised me based on the high proof. There is some oak upfront but it isn’t strong or overwhelming. The oak is tied together with a subtle note sun warmed ripe red raspberries and some dried apples. On the backend of the nose there is a rye black pepper note that pops. Great flavor notes but I was expecting them to be a little more pronounced and bold at this proof.
Taste – This pour lights up my entire palate with ripe red berries, sweet oak and a rye spiciness. All of the flavors hit my palate almost at once. As the bold upfront flavors fade there is a nice dried apple note, some vanilla and more dried oak. There is some heat but it compliments the flavors well. The flavors on the palate are big and bold, especially compared to the intensity of the nose. There isn’t as much barrel influence as I would have anticipated with a 16 year old bourbon as I don’t get a ton of vanilla or caramel. The oak, fruit and rye shine through. A nice viscosity is present but not super thick or oily.
Finish – An amazing finish that takes some time to develop. My palate is coated with berries, dried oak and black pepper that lingers for a few seconds before anything hits my chest. The finish slowly works its way down past my collarbone to warm my rib cage. This took a minute or two to fully mature and was excellent.
Rating – 9.2

Thoughts – This is a big, bold pour and is exactly what a dad would need to cap off an excellent day. Again, Four Roses hits these high-aged releases out of the park and I’m so glad they give these barrel opportunities to their fans. This Father’s Day 2024 barrel release gave the highest proof Four Roses single barrel ever released, and numerous other single barrels that are among the highest proofs ever released. Amazing!
This is a hyper-aged OESV with the highlights being a sweet dry oakiness and fresh red berries. Exactly what I would expect.

This was a great pour and was very different than the Flood Relief 16 year OESV I reviewed a couple years ago. Both pours were excellent and had some major differences. The Flood Relief bottle was sweeter, fruitier, better nose, better mouthfeel, less oaky but honestly drank a tad hot for the proof. This Father’s Day bottle was very oaky (which I love), drying and less sweet than the Flood Relief bottle but still fruity, strong bold flavors and drank well below its proof. I enjoyed both but for me the Flood Relief bottle had a slight edge. Maybe it’s because I am from Eastern Kentucky and the flood relief bottle truly hits close to home for me. I will be curious to see how this bottle opens up and I will revisit this comparison in the future. Side note, this is the first time I noticed the new cap that really is a nice elegant touch!
I hope Four Roses and Master Distiller Brent Elliott keep these releases coming. As a Four Roses enthusiast they do a great job of keeping me engaged with the brand and they give the fans what they want. Four Roses special releases like this don’t come around often but if you can find a bottle, it is a unique experience.
